At a time when technology is constantly changing the way we work and live, SAP presents its digital assistant Joule: a game changer in the HR world. Joule isn't just a new feature; it's a revolution that has come to make the working day both easier and more efficient for managers and employees and for those of you who work in HR. In this article, we'll dive into what we think makes Joule a great digital assistant today, what challenges she solves, and what you can expect from her in the future.
Why Joule?
Picture this: You need to register your vacation days in your HR system. It's been at least six months since you last did this, so you can't quite remember where to click in the system to find your way around, and you're not quite sure how many vacation days you have left. Then Joule comes along and solves it all for you!
You no longer need to log in and find your way around the HR system, not to register your vacation days or to find out how many days you have left. Instead, you find Joule and ask her to register your vacation days for you. You have, of course, alleready asked her how many days you have left to enjoy at the cabin. Or in warmer climes. Or at home.
For managers and employees who don't spend a lot of time in their HR system, navigating through the various menus can be a challenge, even if you have a user-friendly system. SAP's new digital assistant removes this obstacle and helps your employees find what they need in the system. You can simply ask: "Which cost center does Kari Office Employee belong to?" Or "Can you find my pay slip for January?" You don't need to know where to look or which buttons to press. Joule takes care of it all for you and your employees. She simply makes working life much easier and gives you time to focus on the tasks that really matter.
Easier for managers too
There are countless middle managers out there, often working both operationally and administratively. For a manager who rarely creates new positions, it can be difficult to remember how to do just that. "Where was I supposed to go in? And what information was I supposed to fill in?" Using natural language, Joule guides you through the process and instead of getting frustrated at not finding the right menu, she helps you get the new position in place faster than you can spell artificial intelligence.
Also better for the employee
Imagine the following scenario: You've been working for a year in what could be characterized as your dream job. You landed it right after your graduated and you look forward to every day at work. The employer is great, the colleagues are brilliant, and the tasks are both exciting and challenging. You don't work in HR. Nor are you a manager, which is why you don't use the HR system very often.
But now the opportunity that (sometimes) comes with a permanent job has appeared. You dream of buying your own place to live! The bank wants to see your payslips for the last three months, as well as your annual statement from last year. But where on earth do you find it? You remember someone talking about it during your onboarding, but you haven't needed these documents - until now.
Luckily, your employer has a really good HR system, namely SAP SuccessFactors . And because they are so far ahead of the game, they have chosen to use the digital assistant, Joule. So you don't have to remember which path to take to find the documents you need - you ask Joule instead. And voila! There you have the documentation you need.
In addition to helping you find documents, apply for vacation, and find out how many vacation days you're owed, you use SAP's digital assistant to register hours. You simply tell her when you arrive at work - and when you leave. Simple and straightforward.
In this way, Joule helps enhance the employee experience, which is essential in today's labor market. The battle to attract and retain the best minds in the industry is tougher than ever, and by facilitating an excellent employee experience, you give your employees good reasons to choose you as their employer.
What can you expect from Joule?
Do you use English as your business language? Then everything is already set and ready. Joule is already available in English, and a Norwegian version is on SAP's agenda. Even though Joule is not currently available in Norwegian, it doesn't mean that Norwegians can't take advantage of Joule's excellent features. It just means that we have to ask for help in English. In the future, of course, Joule will be available in Norwegian - in the meantime, we can practice our English vocabulary.
As of today, SAP has defined over 60 use cases that Joule can help you with, and the list is growing. We're confident that in the near future, Joule will be able to handle even more company-specific tasks, such as retrieving information from your company's handbook. SAP also has big plans to put in place a voice-controlled app, so that you can talk to Joule in the same way that you talk to Siri on iPhone and Alexa on Android.
We have faith in Joule - do you?
What we've seen of Joule so far is nothing short of truly impressive, and we'd say that Joule has started a revolution when it comes to how HR tasks can be handled.
With its natural language and intuitive interface, Joule makes it easy to get things done, both for employees and managers, and for those who work in HR. With more and more defined use cases, and with plans for both Norwegian language and voice control, we're confident that Joule will help shape and improve the workplaces of the future.
Joule is so much more than a digital assistant - Joule is your partner that will help you create a better and more efficient working day. Sounds great, doesn't it?
