Jan Marsli

Senior Manager Solutions

We are both proud and happy to have Jan Marsli in the Sariba family! Jan is an incredibly talented, and not least interesting man, and with his background in psychology and his many years of experience in organizational culture, employee experience and talent management, he could not have fit in better with us in Sariba.

We've had a chat with him, so you can also have the pleasure of getting to know Jan a little better.

Who are you, Jan?

I am an adventurous and fearless guy who was born and raised in Stavanger. I lived there until 1997 when I decided to study psychology and organizational psychology in England. After my studies, I stayed in England, because here there were so many incredible opportunities, purely career-wise.

After working for over 20 years in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America, I packed my things and re-established myself in Stavanger, with my cohabitant and children. It is very nice to come home again to both family and friends, and I simply thrive very well, if you disregard the weather.

Can you tell us a little more about your background, Jan?

Yes, I can 😊 I have studied psychology at the University of Northampton and at the London Metropolitan University. I have worked in several, large consulting companies and my expertise is in the fields of Employee Experience, Organizational Culture, Competence and Talent Development.

At the same time, I have also been involved in management and business development both in my roles and through organizations I have supported. I'm happy about that, because it gives you a perspective on the subject area in a broader business context. It becomes much easier to think from the outside-in. I have also been so lucky to travel a lot and live in a number of different countries. In this way I have become acquainted with an incredible number of different people and cultures; I have actually been lucky to have been involved in so much.

What have you learned from living and working in so many different places?

The first thing I learned was that understanding other cultures gives you a perspective on people and interaction. This has helped me with what I do at work. Specifically, I have used that knowledge to help Norwegian companies establish themselves abroad, but day to day there is a perspective behind it, and helps me understand other points of view and thoughts in a different way and not least how international organizations really works.

The second is that as an expat, you must always say yes to everything - at least the first year. When I moved to the Middle East and was without a network, this became very visible to me. I quickly learned that it was important to say yes to all social invitations! In this way, I developed and expanded the network, with colleagues' friends, and their friends, who in turn became my friends.

Why Sariba?

Sariba is a super exciting company and I feel that we can complement each other in a good way. I have worked a lot in traditional HR, with both consulting and theory. I find that the HR industry is built around a world that no longer exists! Most of it is based on psychology from the 60s. Today we have access to a huge amount of information and data, the science is out in the field with the organizations - no longer reserved for the universities. So organizations can create their own ways that suit them and their employees.

The question we have to ask ourselves is where should the future of HR be? I think the answer to this is that it should be where the information about the people is! HR must have solutions based on the available information. And this is where Sariba comes in! Sariba provides first-class tools to do just that, and together we will connect people and organization through data and information!

I think it is super exciting to be where the foundation is, and to be in a company that understands that we are not just sitting on tools and processes, we can take this further! HXM is an open book that we can write in, and I look forward to writing some nice words in it with the Sariba family.

What motivates you?

My passion is to connect psychology, technology and organizations! That's what 2020 numbers are all about! We are all customers and suppliers in what we do in this life. We must be empathetic; We must understand unique customer needs and find solutions that suit the individual and the organization. We have to think outside-in all the time, because that's what empathy is - understanding things from the perspective of others.

What are you looking forward to?

I look forward to most things! I'm a guy who gets excited easily! I'm looking forward to a good dinner, to something that will happen next week; it can be both small and big things! I mean, you choose whether you want to feel good, so then I choose to feel very good 😊
