Future investments in digitalization - why so relevant for HR?

Sariba_talent management

There is no doubt that the future lies in the digital world. According to a survey conducted by Management Events in 2015*, digitization within HR is a highly relevant topic among the largest companies in Norway. Among other things, the report identifies future investments and development projects that are on the agenda of top managers.

Why is digitalization so relevant for HR? And which investments in HR are highest on the wish list of Norwegian top executives in the years to come?

A whopping 82% of survey respondents believe there is a need for leadership development within their organization and that the key areas of HR are HR support, integration of HR and corporate strategies and strategic workforce planning. With the right choice of HR systems, some of Norway's largest companies are looking to improve performance and reduce costs.

The survey also shows that HR work will increasingly focus on leadership development, change support and integration between HR and business strategy:

The digital journey

No industry will remain untouched by the digital revolution. We wrote about this earlier this summer, in our post on how companies should get on the right track in the digital journey. There we presented various factors that show why digitalization is highly relevant for HR.

Digitalisation changes how employees, customers and others interact with the business, and digital technologies bring the organisation together. According to Management Events' survey, the effect of digital technology on businesses is increasing. A whopping 51% of senior executives predict that social media will have a significant impact on their business within 3 years, compared with 17% today. 42% of managers believe mobility will have a major impact in the same period, compared with 25% today.

Cloud and big data services are also expected to have an increasing impact:

Talent management is another area the leaders are concerned about. Leadership development, competence mapping and competence metrics are at the top of the list of investment needs in the next few years:

*The survey "Future investments of HR executives in Norway" was conducted by Management Events in the fall of 2015 with 70 of the largest companies in Norway, about their planned investments in HR. The respondents were decision makers (HR managers and CEOs). The findings of the survey are based on their expectations for future investments and development projects within HR in the next 18 months.
