Take employee and management surveys to a new level

Two consultants: one is SDM

Do you want to measure the heart rate of your organization? A well-conducted employee and management survey allows you to do just that. Before you get started, there are several things to consider to make sure the survey gives you the information you're looking for.

We recommend that you ask yourself the following four questions before starting the survey:
1) What do I want to achieve by carrying out the survey?
2) How are the surveys to be carried out and followed up?
3) Do I have the necessary skills to carry out an investigation?
4) Do I have the IT support tools I need?

Conducting employee and management surveys

In order to conduct a good survey, it is important that you ask the right questions, that they are asked in the right way. You must also have a good tool, both to receive answers, but also to analyze these so that you can initiate the right measures, quickly.

Asking the right questions requires experience. It is therefore important that you take a look at your own organization and see if you have the experience needed to do just that. If you do not have it, it may be a good idea to enter into a collaboration with advisers who have exactly this competence.

We at Sariba have for many years conducted employee and management surveys in both the public and private sectors. Our experience shows that you get the most value by conducting surveys when the results are used as a tool for dialogue, and when the predefined goals are increased quality and improvement.

It is important that the questions in the survey are perceived as relevant and that the survey tool is easy to use on a digital surface such as a PC, mobile or tablet. It is also important that the recipients feel that the survey has a specific purpose, and that they add some form of value to the company when they respond to it. When you quickly initiate concrete measures based on the results of the surveys, your employees experience exactly this.

Do your surveys have clear goals?

Too many companies, which carry out employee and management surveys, carry these out without clear goals. This means that both managers and employees are relatively indifferent to the follow-up of the surveys and to the measures that are initiated. When this happens, the results of the surveys will provide little value to your organization. In order for you to get the most out of a survey, the commitment must start with the management. Management must demand both progress and results. They must also monitor developments, have a clear and distinct reporting and follow-up structure, and look up the results towards other business goals.

When employee and management surveys are conducted, it is easy to have all the focus on method, and on conducting the survey in the most efficient way possible. We at Sariba instead focus on the entire life cycle of the survey. This starts with the planning and ends with us asking the participants if they saw that their answer led to concrete measures. When we work, we start with the end of the survey. Here we imagine that employees and managers answer the question "Did you see concrete results based on the input you gave in the last survey?"

We obviously want a positive answer to this question. To achieve this, we work with you to develop an effective and realistic plan. This plan must contain concrete measures that must be implemented for us, together, to get exactly there. Changes that improve the employee experience are the goal of the survey, not the survey itself.
